I recently wrote about why “Folly Beach Rocks.” I then realized I never wrote how much I love Waxhaw! My hometown. As a “Waxhawian” I want to make sure you know where to grab some good grub in town.

Waxhaw is huge btw. Most of the restaurants are located in a really cool downtown area. There’s a huge pedestrian train bridge where you can watch some big trains come through…

You may even run into my dad, who will tell you that I’m a popular celebrity on the radio! Haha.

Here are a few spots to check out downtown when you’re in my neighborhood.

  • 701 Main Restaurant and Bar

This is my dad’s favorite “upscale” place in Waxhaw. Dad orders the steak here. He’s the pickiest guy on the planet so the fact that he likes 701’s steak is saying a lot!

  • Maxwells Tavern

Maxwells Tavern is a great spot. It’s not very big so there’s usually a wait during high traffic hours. But it’s worth the wait! Their burgers are sooo good. Order a burger and make sure you get their steak fries on the side. The salads here also do not disappoint!

  • Emmet's Social Table

Emmet’s is named after the owner’s son, (how bout that nugget). The atmosphere is great, and the food comes in all shapes and sizes. They have a huge bar and a great outdoor patio. The building itself is an old mill and you can still see some the of the remains if you look around. Grab the pork quesadilla or the “kicking chicken” and waffles.

  • Mary O'neills

If you’re looking for a good pub with good beer and food, Mary O’neills is your spot. It’s a joint. With old furniture and good Irish vibes! Their website says “Mary O’Neills. Southern Inspired, Irish Hospitality.” Love that! Grab the Barney’s Reuben Rolls it’s a house favorite.
