When Dialing 911 Isn’t Enough, This Team Helps Through Crisis Intervention
Imagine a situation where a law officer is called and on the scene is a woman visibly shaken because her partner has abused her and the alleged abusive partner is irate and acting erratic, or a family member cannot get an elderly member to come to the door or answer the phone, they begin to panic. Or a 15-year-old girl or a 75-year-old person is missing. The first thought is to dial 9-1-1. And you should. But now, because of more awareness and sensitivity to mental health, there is another member who may be on the scene to help manage these cases. They are members of CIT or Crisis Intervention Team.
Mecklenburg County has such a team. Meet the Crisis Intervention Team.
