Charlotte Area Transit System rolled out a text message tip line and web-based reporting tool. Passengers can now flag safety issues on buses, trains, and at stations. The tip line number is 704-251-6402.

The transit agency added a "Report a Problem" button on RideTransit.org's homepage. Riders can file concerns through this new website feature. They can still call customer service at 704-336-7433 or use the CATS-Pass mobile app.

New posters went up throughout the system to spread the word. The signage appears inside vehicles, on platforms, and at facilities. CATS also updated overhead announcements at stations and onboard trains to mention these reporting tools.

"Safety is — and will continue to be — our top priority," said CATS CEO Brent Cagle in a press release. "By expanding the ways riders can quickly reach us, and by clearly promoting these tools across our buses, trains, and stations, we are making it even easier for customers to speak up and partner with us in keeping the system safe."

Passengers can share real-time information or service needs with the agency through these channels, according to the press release. Banners across the system advertise the new reporting option to boost awareness.

These changes add to safety improvements made over the past year. CATS said the new reporting methods are part of its continuing work to build a transit system where riders feel supported and informed.

Customers have been able to contact the customer service line or use the "Report a Problem to CATS" feature in the mobile app for years. The text line and website option create two additional channels for communication between passengers and the transit authority.

Updated signage explains when and how to use each reporting option. Riders can figure out which method works best for their situation when they need to report concerns while traveling.
