Sugar Creek Brewing Company will open its first taproom at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The spot sits in Concourse A near the Wright Brothers installation. The brewery announced this on Wednesday on Facebook and Instagram.
Visitors can try seasonal beers and small-batch brews. An exclusive "First in Flight" pilsner will be sold only at this airport spot. HMSHost will manage the taproom as part of its contract with CLT.
"If the Wright Brothers had a layover ... we'd like to think this is where they'd stop," Sugar Creek Brewing Company said, according to the Charlotte Observer, sharing a picture of the flight innovators enjoying their brew.
The brewery crafts Belgian-inspired beers at 215 Southside Drive in Charlotte's Lower South End. Operations started in 2014.
Sugar Creek Brewing Company plans another opening in Gastonia, taking over the space once held by Cavendish Brewing Company, which was that city's only local brewery.
This news arrives about a month after HMSHost ended its partnership with Sycamore Brewing at CLT. That decision came after the brewery's co-founder faced charges of statutory rape involving a 13-year-old girl in December.
Sycamore Brewing had operated in the Concourse E extension since late 2022. The company didn't respond to requests for comment as of Wednesday.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport shared news about the incoming taproom on its social media accounts. Travelers can grab local craft beers while they wait for their flights.
