Starting April 22, Mecklenburg County's N.C. Cooperative Extension will run a six-day series of food events. These gatherings connect residents with food makers and teach home growing skills.
The "Love Your Local" series starts with a special dinner. Food buyers from Charlotte markets will sit down with area farmers. Fresh ingredients from nearby fields will fill each plate.
Day two brings hands-on learning to Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. Staff will teach simple ways to start small food plots. These quick lessons show how anyone can grow food at home.
Three breweries step up for a lively quiz night on April 24. Monday Night Brewing, Free Range Brewing, and Armored Cow Brewing mix brain teasers with local drinks.
Smart shopping takes center stage on April 26. Expert guides lead small groups through market stalls, pointing out North Carolina's best seasonal picks. These walks turn shopping trips into learning chances.
Young cooks take over on April 27. Kids will compete to make tasty dishes using farm-fresh items.
"Love Your Local serves as a call to embrace area farmers and businesses while establishing a connection to the plates we dine from," said county officials to Mecklenburg County News.
This marks year two of the extension office's food programs. Cooking shows on April 25 round out the week's activities.
Sign-ups just opened on the extension's site. Space runs tight for some events; the first night's dinner fits just 100 guests.
