On December 9, 2024, officials gave the green light to turn the Johnston Building at 212 S. Tryon St. into The Beckworth Hotel, adding more hotel rooms to downtown Charlotte. San Francisco's KHP Capital Partners is taking on the renovation of this historic building. Their plans cover all 17 floors of the 172,300-square-foot building, blending historic features with modern amenities.

Jeff Stulmaker, partner and chief investment officer at KHP, said, "Conversion plans for the building include 245 hotel rooms, a ground-floor restaurant and coffee shop, a 10,000-square-foot meeting room, a 3,500-square-foot ballroom, and a rooftop bar." This renovation will be an impressive change from the building's former days as an office building.

Located in the heart of Uptown, this 17-story landmark fits right in with other historic mid-rise buildings from Charlotte's early days.

As the building switches from offices to hotel rooms, it marks a new beginning for one of Uptown's oldest buildings. Visitors now have another place to stay in Charlotte's busy downtown.
