As a resident, you don't normally do what tourists do in your city will do; sometimes you miss the attractions that your city has to offer. Sure, once in a while, friends or family come to visit and you hit some hot spots, but more often people don't visit great spots in their cities.
The truth is, Charlotte is a city that has much to offer and to do for those of you wanting to take a "staycation" and spend a little time exploring your home city.
We found some fun things to do here in Charlotte.
Carowinds
Carolwinds is a mighty fine theme park that has been around for more than 50 years. It's a place families and friends choose for an amazing day, the Carolina Way.

It also promises that from the moment you get here, you’ll see that Carowinds is one of the best places to visit in North Carolina and South Carolina.
The U.S. National Whitewater Center
The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is dedicated to the promotion of an active, outdoor lifestyle. For over 18 years, the USNWC has been promoting access to the outdoors for all levels of participants through its all-day pass programs, instruction, leadership school as well as festivals, races, and other outdoor events.
The website promises that "Whether you visit the Center’s 1,300 acres on the Catawba River or participate in the offsite programs featured throughout the United States, the USNWC wants you to play, relax, and learn outside."
The NASCAR Hall of Fame
There simply isn't a better place for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This museum is an interactive, entertainment attraction honoring the history and heritage of NASCAR. The high-tech venue, designed to educate and entertain race fans and non-fans alike, opened May 11, 2010, and includes artifacts, interactive exhibits, and a 278-person state-of-the-art theater.
The goal of the facility is to honor NASCAR icons and create an enduring tribute to the drivers, crew members, team owners, and others who have impacted the sport in the past, present, and future.
The Mint Museum
The Mint Museum's intimate galleries invite visitors to engage with the art of the ancient Americas, ceramics and decorative arts, and European and African art, among other collections.
Resources include a reference library with over 18,000 volumes, a theater featuring lectures and performances, and a museum store offering merchandise that complements both the permanent collection and special exhibitions.
