A 76-year-old woman, Shirley Roberts, was recently involved in a serious car accident, flipping her vehicle over an embankment in Asheboro, North Carolina. Fortunately, an Amazon delivery driver named Amanda Smith happened to be in the area and spotted the crash while making deliveries. She wasted no time, calling 911 before going back to check on the elderly driver. Now the Amazon driver is being hailed as a hero for saving the drivers life.

Smith's timely intervention led to other passersby also rushing to help Roberts. MY FOX 8  reports emergency responders from Westside Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene minutes later and used specialized equipment to extract Roberts from the wrecked car, a process that took nearly half an hour.

Rescuers say that if the Amazon driver hadn’t come along when she did this might have been a more tragic crash. While the driver attributes her actions to instinct, Roberts’ daughter-in-law Eleanor believes a higher power led Smith to the scene. Roberts sustained injuries to her ribs, fingers, and neck, and is currently undergoing rehabilitation for her injuries, but is expected to fully recover.

This is what I love about humanity. We as humans do a lot of picking at each other over a variety of things. In a day and age when bullying, social media trolling and hate speech seem be common place it's nice to see good gestures like this happen. I firmly believe stories like Smith and Roberts happen on a daily basis all over the country, but we don't hear about it. Humans deep down care for one another, even strangers.

The next time you see a another person in distress I'm pretty sure you won't ask them what race, religion or political affiliation they are you before you help them. And that's what gives me hope that we will make it in the world. It gives me a feeling that deep down inside, we really love each other, and everything else is just noise!

Data Shows North Carolina Has The Most Dangerous Rural Roads In America

Driving these days can be a terrifying experience. Especially in Charlotte, it seems the drivers get worse and more aggressive by the day and traffic laws are a mere suggestion. But it's actually the rural roads that are of concern in North Carolina. New research by Florida Personal Injury Lawyers Anidjar & Levine looked at 10 years' worth of data including the number of annual miles driven on rural roads and the number of rural road accidents for each state. They used this data to determine which states had the highest occurrence of rural crashes. And it's North Carolina that has the most dangerous rural roads in America.

That's right North Carolina ranked first on this list. And that's not something to celebrate. The state has 70.45 accidents for every billion miles driven. Another interesting statistic is that 44.3% of these crashes occur on roads with a 55 mph speed limit. That's 64.7% higher than the national average which is 26.9%. In some ways, this makes sense as there are a lot of rural roads in North Carolina. But when you consider the sheer size of other states it is a little crazy that we topped the list.

To create this list the researchers at Anidjar & Levine gathered data from 2012-2021 from agencies including NCDOT, FARS, the U.S. Census Bureau, and FHWA. The rural road accident rate was calculated by dividing the annual miles driven on rural roads by the number of vehicles involved in rural road accidents for each state. Keep reading below to see the top five states with the most dangerous roads in America. North Carolina isn't the only Carolina in the top 5 either. Stay safe out there North Carolina.
