The Surprising Reason Why Gen Z Is Moving To North Carolina

If you live in North Carolina then chances are you or someone you know is not native to NC. So why do you so many of us move to North Carolina? Work, cheaper taxes, and weather all come to mind! A recent Zillow report shows that Gen Z is flocking to warmer states. North Carolina is one of those states that Gen Z is moving to, just for that reason alone!

The report took a look at the moving trends from 2022. It found that the three states that had the largest influx of Gen Z moving to them were all warm states – Texas, California, and Florida, respectively. North Carolina was inside the top 5. NC landed at the #4 on the list of Gen Z outta state movers.

"Compared to all interstate movers, Gen Z adults who moved to California, Washington, Colorado or Virginia were more likely to have a four-year college degree, more likely to be serving in the military, and more likely to work in tech, ACS data shows," Zillow principal population scientist, Edward Berchick, explained. "Gen Z movers are likely drawn to the job opportunities in these states, despite the higher costs of housing."

North Carolina has so much going for it. The job market is great in cities like Charlotte and Raliegh. If you're looking for smaller cities we got that covered for you too. Asheville or Boone in the mountains, or Wilmington and Myrtle Beach near the coast.

As far as the weather goes, if you're from up north you'll be happy to know that Charlotte has not had snow in over 2 years! So when you move here Gen Z, you can leave the shovel behind! Hahaha!

A North Carolina apple orchard was voted one of the best in the nation. The website Study Finds put out it's best Orchards in the country list recently. Travel experts voted on the 5 best.

Many orchards also offer activities like hayrides, corn mazes, and petting zoos, making it a fun outing for families and friends. Apple picking offers a chance to spend time outdoors, away from the usual urban areas. It's honestly a refreshing change and an opportunity to enjoy nature and the changing seasons.

Nothing says apple-picking like the "Peach State." Well, it's true. Mercier Orchards in Blueridge,  Georgia takes the top spot on the list. The veteran-owned orchard also features a winery with hard cider tastings. Yumm!

Who would think Rhode Island was home to a great orchard? They are apparently. Study Finds says the apple fritters are to die for. Then they also have caramel/chocolate/Oreo-covered apples. Yummm! I'm going! 

Home sweet home! Sky Top in Flat Rock has been running for decades! They offer more than 20 apple varieties to pick from August through October. The farm is huge with over 100 acres atop Mount McAlpine in Flat Rock. Perfect for picture taking! 

At Carter Mountain Orchard you can pick over 20 varieties of apples. Good ones like; Fuji, Pink Lady, and York. There's hayrides around the property and enjoying fresh-pressed apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, and wine. While there you can take in the views from the observation deck overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

My cousin swears New Hampshire is a great place. I've never been. But he goes to his vacation house near Applecrest Farm Orchards. You can listen to bluegrass music, go apple picking, jump on hayrides too!
