Baby names are a fascinating cultural phenomenon that reflect the values, trends and traditions of each generation. Some names have stood the test of time and remain popular for centuries, while others come and go in a matter of years. In recent decades, there has been a trend towards more unique and individual baby names, which has resulted in some traditional names becoming less common or even extinct.
One reason why certain baby names are going extinct is that parents today are often looking for more distinctive names that set their child apart from the crowd. This has led to a rise in creative spellings, hyphenated names, and unusual choices that may not have been popular in previous generations. Additionally, some names may have become associated with negative or outdated cultural stereotypes, leading parents to avoid them in favor of more modern options.
Another factor that may contribute to the decline of certain baby names is the influence of popular culture. As trends in music, movies, and television change, so do the names that parents choose for their children. For example, the popularity of the name "Karen" has declined in recent years due to negative connotations associated with the name in popular culture.
Overall, the reasons why certain baby names are going extinct are complex and varied. While some names may simply fall out of fashion, others may lose popularity due to shifts in cultural values or negative associations in the media. Regardless of the reasons, it is clear that baby naming trends will continue to evolve and change with each passing generation.
BabyCenter offers an annual "most popular" baby names list, but the company also sifted through the data to find the names that seem to be going out of style, based on how much those names have dropped in popularity over the past year. According to Newser, some names have plummeted so significantly that BabyCenter fears they'll eventually go "extinct." Trends in this group include a distancing from last names turned into first names (think the aforementioned Brady and Bradley), as well as names ending with an "aden" or "eden" sound (Aidan, Jaiden).

Celebrities Who Welcomed Babies In 2023
In 2023, lots of celebrity couples welcomed babies. Some celebrated the birth of their very first child, while others, added a new bundle of joy to their growing family. In some cases, celebrities who couldn't have a natural birth have welcomed children via surrogate. No matter how their children were brought into the world, a baby is a blessing. These stars have opened up about their pregnancy journey and celebrated with fans as they welcomed their newborns. There must be something in the celebrity gene pool that makes their babies not look like aliens fresh out of the womb because their newborns are so adorable.
Approximately 134.28 million births will occur across the globe in 2023, according to the United Nation’s medium variant of the population projections. Based on that projection, there should be an average of about 368,000 births per day in 2023. However, birth rates have declined in most states across the US in recent years, as women are having babies at an older age, according to data released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Birth rates among women in their late 30s and early 40s rose in the last decade, and the birth rate among women over 45 also exceeded one birth per 1,000 population for the first time in more than a decade. Meanwhile, the teen birth rate dropped to a record low last year, according to the data.
As for Hollywood couples, there seems to be no shortage of babies being born in 2023. The list keeps growing and so do their families. Since the year isn't over yet, take a look below to see which celebrities welcomed babies in 2023.
