Mariah Carey’s Ex-Boyfriend Confirms Split After 7 Years
Mariah Carey’s boyfriend of seven years is officially confirming their breakup after rumors of their split made waves recently. Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that the couple had split over an alleged disagreement about having children together.
Bryan Tanaka is fourteen years younger than Carey, being 40, while the singer is 54. The “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer already shares 12-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with ex-husband Nick Cannon.
On Tuesday (December 26), the dancer and choreographer took to Instagram to address the “mixed emotions” he feels about their “amicable separation” after “seven extraordinary years together.” He doubles down in his statement that their decision to “embark on different paths is mutual,” and as they navigate these separate journeys, they are doing so “with profound respect and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the invaluable time we’ve shared.”

Tanaka continued by sharing his admiration of Mariah’s dedication to her family and commitment to her craft, which he says “inspired us during our shared journey.” He then asked for “understanding, privacy, and respect” during this “sensitive” time.
Fans of Mariah have continued to show Tanaka support, which he acknowledges in the statement. Even in the comments section, the sentiment holds true, with fans sharing their encouragement for the dancer. One person commented, “Bryan, as a lamb, I’m here to tell you that we’re so grateful for your support towards Mariah and we will always love you. Thank you for being such an incredible person to her. We’ll always love you, and we hope you both recover from this.”
Tanaka first met Carey when he joined her on her The Adventures of Mimi Tour in 2006 as a backup dancer, according to the Associated Press. Ten years later, he made an appearance on her 2016 reality show, Mariah’s World. Carey officially confirmed the relationship in 2017, saying, “I’m just going to be like, ‘I really don’t talk about my personal life.’ Because that’s what I used to do, and it really worked for a minute, back, a while ago. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about my personal life. … Me and my boyfriend don’t want to do that.”
