What's the most beautiful place you've ever visited? For me that's a hard decision. I'd probably go with Turks & Caicos as the color of that water was just breathtakingly unbelievable. In the US it's harder to narrow down a choice. I absolutely love cities full of southern charm like Savannah and Charleston. While I'm more a beach than a mountain person I've been lucky enough to visit some incredibly gorgeous mountain town across the country as well. The red rocks in Sedona Arizona are stand outs as well. Conde Nast Traveler recently included a South Carolina town on their list of the nation's 28 most beautiful places.

Think it was Charleston? It's a good guess and a city that is almost always included on lists like these. And for good reason. But not this time! It is Beaufort South Carolina! I've heard a lot of wonderful things about this Lowcountry South Carolina town, but its somewhere I haven't had a chance to visit yet. It certainly sounds like a place I would adore though!

Beaufort is located on Port Royal Island. The second oldest town in South Carolina is known for it's incredible Antebellum mansions and architecture. Visitors love the live oaks covered in Spanish moss that line the Beaufort Historic District. Conde Nast Traveler speaks highly of the dining options. Their recommendations? "Wasabi deviled eggs at Old Bull Tavern, shrimp n’ grits at Saltus River Grill, and lamb meatloaf at Breakwater Restaurant & Bar."

So what company is Beaufort in for the most beautiful places? Some of my favorites that made the list include Carmel-by-the-sea in California, Sedona, and St. Augustine, FL. The full list (which you can view here) includes cities in Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, South Dakota, Arkansas, and more. Now to figure out how to visit them all!

South Carolina Named In The Top 3 Most Charming States

When you think of charming what do you think of? When I hear the word two things come to mind- Prince Charming and Southern Charm. While I'm still waiting on Prince Charming I have experienced Southern charm and all that means. And when I was sent this information about the most charming states, I just had a feeling the South would be well represented. And it was. The data, shared with us by our friends at Oddspedia came from a survey of 5000 Americans. The researchers at Oddspedia asked each respondent the states they feel "embody the essence of Southern hospitality".

Survey respondents were asked to rank their state and their perception of other southern states in four categories. These included Southern charm, politeness, helpfulness, and friendliness. The average scores in each category were added together and then the states ranked as the most charming. A separate list created the rankings on the state's own perception of themselves. But what is fun in that, the results we are looking at are of other states. Because in the South people's perception is everything.
But first what exactly is Southern Charm? Who better to ask than Southern Living? According to the publication "What some deem as charming is just the natural Southern way of being kind, witty, and considerate to everyone we encounter, whether it be at the post office, grocery store, or at church. Having grace under pressure and making others feel welcome and comfortable is also part of the Southern charm. "
So there you have it folks. Keep reading to see the 10 most charming states including where both North and South Carolina rank. I'll give you a hint the Carolina that's farther south is perceived as more charming. Thanks to our friends at Oddspedia for sharing this data with us.

But then there is downtown Myrtle Beach probably why SC didn't take the top spot. No hate to Myrtle Beach, but downtown at night isn't quite charming.
