South Carolina Students Find Teacher A Kidney Donor and Raise $18K For Transplant
Finding a kidney donor can be a challenging and emotionally exhausting process. Kidney transplantation is a life-saving treatment option for those suffering from end-stage kidney disease. However, the demand for donor kidneys far outweighs the supply, leading to long waiting lists for patients in need.
There are several ways to increase the chances of finding a kidney donor. One of the most effective ways is to utilize social media platforms and reach out to friends, family, and acquaintances. However, one group of students did things a little differently for a special teacher.
Every year, students from Wren High School in Anderson County, South Carolina, pick a cause to support during spirit week. This year, they chose Teresa Lewis, a beloved Wren High special education teacher at the school. She is suffering from kidney disease and is desperately in need of a kidney donation.
According to WYFF 4, on Tuesday of this week, it was announced that not only had the students raised $18-thousand for her, but a kidney donor has stepped forward for her, too. Lewis, who’s been teaching at Wren High for over 20 years, expressed pride in the students. “Their enthusiasm about a cause, not just my cause but any cause is amazing,” she says, “They’re just incredible students.”
Although she’s grateful to have a donor lined up, Lewis was quick to point out that donors are still needed for the thousands of people waiting for organ donations. “There are so many other people that need kidneys,” she says, “We all have two kidneys, so we have one to share.” Her children attended Wren High and she’s hopeful that after her surgery, she’ll be able to continue teaching long enough to see her young grandchildren walking the school’s hallways.
Remember, finding a kidney donor is a difficult process, but it is not impossible. With perseverance, education, and a strong support system, there is hope for those in need of a life-saving kidney transplant.

1. Lily Aldrin

Throughout the show, Arnold’s math teacher, Mr. Collins, holds him to a high standard and pushes him to develop a strong work ethic. The actor who played Mr. Collins, Steven Gilborn, was actually a professor before he turned to acting.
