The Top Hangover Cures For the Holidays
The holidays are here! Here's the top hangover cures for the holidays! With all of the social events and gatherings that happen during the holiday season, there are a lot of opportunities to celebrate with a cocktail. The average drinker will suffer from four hangovers in December, according to The Sun. Adults who drink alcohol say there will be 16 occasions where they indulge. Those include work parties, dining out and drinks at home, a new survey finds.
With all that drinking, it’s no wonder people will end up with a hangover. Participants say each one typically lasts for 10 hours. But for some unfortunate folks, hangover symptoms linger for 24 hours or longer (8%). As a result, 75% say they’ll try a range of things to try to feel better, including staying in bed all day, getting fresh air and going to the gym.
The gym is bad for you, however! According to scientists, you should make today a rest day if you’re hungover.
No, You Can’t Sweat Out A Hangover. If you think you can get the booze out of you via your sweat glands you’re sadly mistaken. Research shows as little as 10% of the alcohol that your body hasn’t metabolized exits through sweat.
Part of the reason you don’t want to leave the bed when you’re hungover is because you just had some of the worst sleep ever. Alcohol increases the amount of a chemical called adenosine our brain releases. Thjis helps us fall asleep faster, but then it rapidly decreases and throws off our REM sleep.
Your Body Is Lacking Nutrients. It’s no secret that alcohol makes your liver work overtime but did you know all that effort it’s putting in also messes with your metabolism? Processing that booze creates tension on your digestive system and a struggle for your body to access essential nutrients. So your body is far from peak performance mode and you’re likely to get tired much faster than when you work out sober.
