This Is The Number 1 French Restaurant In North Carolina
I love any sort of French restaurant. From brunch, to dinner, to pastries, anything I love it all. There is one essentially right outside my door that I visit often. Even if it’s just to grab a macaron (or 5). I love the atmosphere, the dishes, and the abundance of bread and cheese. So when I saw that 24/7 Wall Street named the best French restaurant in each state I had to see what they chose for North Carolina. Spoiler alert it’s not my beloved favorite- but it is in a city known for food- Asheville. And as many times as I have visited Asheville I’m surprised I haven’t visited yet. The restaurant is Bouchon which is the s the French word for “cork”.
Bouchon
Bouchon serves up authentic French comfort food in Downtown Asheville on Lexington Street. The menu is reminiscent of a traditional French bistro with ingredients sourced from Western North Carolina. Founder and owner Michel Baudouin, grew up on a farm in France so you can be sure this is authentic French cuisine. The menu look fantastic featuring dishes such as steak tartare, Moules Frites, Boeuf Bourguignon, Truite aux Amandes, and more. There is also a fantastic wine selection which is a must at any restaurant in my opinion! You can view the menu here.
So how did 24/7 Wall Street determine that Bouchon is the best of the best French restaurant in North Carolina? “24/7 Tempo consulted reviews and ratings on sites including Gayot, Michelin, Tasting Table, Time Out, Culture Trip, Business Insider, and Yelp, as well as numerous local and regional sources.” They heavily weighted whether or not a restaurant stays true to French culinary traditions, whether classical or contemporary. It sounds as though they did their due diligence. I’ll have to check Bouchon out the next time I’m in Ashville. You can read the full 24/7 Wall Street list here.
