Food recalls are not uncommon in the industry, but Trader Joe’s has just announced the fifth recall of one of their food items in the past month due to possible foreign material contamination.
According to EatThis,NotThat!, here is a list of the affected products in case you may have missed them.
- Multigrain Crackers with Sunflower and Flax Seeds – these crackers may contain metal and have Best If Used By dates from March 1 and March 5. The company says that all of the affected crackers have been removed from sale and destroyed. No injuries have been reported.
- Almond Windmill Cookies and Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies – this recall was announced on July 25 after suppliers said the cookies could contain rocks. Sell-by dates for the Almond Windmill Cookies were October 2 as well as October 19 through October 21. The Sell By Dates for the Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies were October 17 through October 21.
- Trader Joe’s Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup - announced on July 27, a supplier alerted that the soup may contain insects. Affected products had Use By dates of July 18 through September 15.
- Fully Cooked Falafel – a recall was announced on July 28 because some batches of this product may also contain rocks. Trader Joe’s sold these products in 35 states and Washington D.C. You can check the Trader Joe’s website to see all of the states that were affected.
Trader Joe’s says that all of these products have been removed from sale and destroyed. If you have purchased any of the affected products, you can discard them or return them to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.
The company goes on to say “At Trader Joe’s, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our customers and Crew Members. With this in mind, we do the daily work to make certain our products meet our stringent food safety expectations. We don’t take any chances when it comes to product safety and quality. We take these matters seriously—personally, even, as our families eat and drink TJ’s products too.”
One additional item that has garnered complaints was Trader Joe’s cottage cheese. It hasn’t been recalled, but some customers complained earlier in August that they noticed mold growth before expiration dates.
