Millennials are moving to Charlotte!

In the past, lots of millennials were flocking to big cities. But that’s now changed, according to a new study. Bank of America looked at which cities millennials are moving to right now, and there are five in particular that have seen a recent surge in popularity.

These five cities are:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Cleveland, Ohio
  3. Tampa, Florida
  4. Dallas, Texas
  5. Charlotte, North Carolina

Broker and founder of AustinRealEstate.com, Jim Olenbush, isn’t surprised to find Austin at the top of the list. “This city is a microcosm of the larger trend we’re seeing with millennials,” he explained. “[Young couples] mused about proximity to eclectic dining spots, the vibrancy of the neighborhood, and how easy it would be to cycle to work or hop on public transport.”

He also wasn’t surprised that larger cities like New York and Los Angeles weren’t in the top five. “While they do attract a sizable portion, smaller cities, with their balanced economic opportunities and urban amenities, are increasingly on the radar,” he said. “Imagine the charm of a Santa Cruz or an Ann Arbor, offering the best of both worlds.”
