Why Was There Mysterious Smoke Coming Out Of My Sewers In Waxhaw

If you see mysterious smoke coming from your sewers you might be alarmed! Last week I came home to a bright green notice on my front door. It read "Sewer Smoke Testing." I'd never heard of that before. But the Union County, NC logo was on it so I believed it wasn't a scam. That and the fact that other neighbors said they got the same message and a phone call confirming also.

The notice read: "Smoke testing will be done to see if there are any leaks in the sewer lines. The leaks can cause major issues in the future. Including; storm drain back-ups, and flooding at the water treatment facilities in Union County." The testing was set for the 17th of July. They said the smoke had a small order and was harmless to the environment.

So I didn't think much more about it. That was until a neighbor told me to go look at the Nextdoor App to see what people are saying about the mysterious smoke. The comments were wide-ranging and varied in nature. Some people liked the fact that our tax money was going to good use. Others said they didn't get a call or a notice and it was all news to them.

Then you get the conspiracy people. The people who don't believe anything or anyone. Comments like; "The smoke is not harmless, no smoke is." Ok maybe I can get on board with that one, but I have to believe public safety is in the county's best interest. Maybe I'm wrong. Then there were comments that said "The smoke is mind control" and "The smoke is another way the government can control us." Whatever you believe it came and went. I wasn't near the smoke so my mind should still be mine haha!

If you didn't get a call or notice you might think the sewers were on fire, or a volcano is beneath the ground about to explode! Just like the movie "Volcano." hahaha.

But it turns out it's just smoke...Testing for leaks. The county doing its job!
