Millions of people order groceries from Instacart, but it seems there’s one item they want more than anything else. According to new data from Instacart, bananas are the top-selling grocery item they deliver in the U.S. and Canada.
And it’s not the first time the fruit has topped the list; it’s been the most popular grocery item for 11 years in a row. But bananas have reached a new milestone with the delivery company this year, as Instacart has now delivered more than 1-billion bananas. To give you an idea of how many bananas that is, they say that’s enough to cover the distance from New York City to Los Angeles over 47 times.
Laurentia Romaniuk, trends expert for Instacart, explains, “In 2022, one in four carts contained bananas and this number has remained relatively consistent from year to year.” Despite their popularity, customers are pretty picky about how ripe they want their bananas to be, as nearly 40% of Instacart banana orders have specific instructions containing the word “green.”
Other most-sold items include; toilet paper, milk and dairy, bread and pasta and hair products haha!
