There are thousands of streets in North Carolina. But what makes a street iconic? And what is the most iconic street? Some streets boast great retail offerings, nightlife, overall entertainment, or historical background. They just happen to be the streets that people always visit or have an impromptu photoshoot.

When it comes to the most iconic streets, some people may instantly think of famous boulevards, famous avenues and famous roads from movies and TV shows. Amongst those famous roads would be Lombard Street in San Francisco, Abbey Road in London, the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, Broadway in New York, and more. These roadways make their towns complete, offering those who are traveling a chance to appreciate history, modern destinations, and eateries.

Many streets define a town, giving those who visit an experience.  Though several streets can bring about road rage or are heavily impacted by traffic, there are many streets that are loved by the people who often travel them.

According to Savoteur, a travel site, every state has an "iconic street." They named the most iconic street in each state, including North Carolina.

What is the most iconic street in North Carolina?

The site says that North Carolina's most iconic street is Fayetteville Street. The "iconic" street acted as a parade ground, hosting such events as the march of Union troops toward the State Capitol in 1865. According to The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), Fayetteville Street served as a streetcar line from 1891 until 1933 and was once converted to a car-free pedestrian mall in 1977.

Whether you're a longtime North Carolina resident or an occasional visitor, this street in North Carolina is one of the most iconic streets. You can view the full list of ‘Most Iconic Streets in Every State’ here.
