There's currently a salmonella outbreak that has been linked to the flour. As delicious as cookie dough is, it is uncooked like anything else raw. It contains flour which comes from wheat. Occasionally animal droppings can become present while it grows into flour. The bacteria from the droppings, however, doesn't die. Cooking it is the only way to kill bacteria.
