This card may be kept until needed or sold. And that's just what a Chisago County driver did. Unfortunately, I don't think the get out of jail free card did not have the same impact in real life as it does in the game of Monopoly. But hey you can't blame a guy for trying. And in fact, if I had been the officer (I'm clearly not) and it was a minor infraction, I probably would have let him go. This interaction took place in Chisago County Michigan. It was relayed to the public via the Sherrif's Office Facebook page.

The department wrote that when conducting a traffic stop the officer was handed not only the driver's license but the slightly torn Monopoly get out of jail free card. The post went on to say that the state of Minnesota doesn't recognize that as a valid document. But credited the driver for the effort and humor. Who knows it could have worked! And if it did I'm sure the Sherrif's Office would keep that a secret. Wouldn't want a true "get out of jail free" pass to be known to the public. I guess this means the bank won't take my monopoly money either?
