Democrats are making South Carolina the first state to vote in the presidential primary ahead of the 2024 election.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) officially approved the change at a meeting in Philadelphia on Saturday when they decided to remove Iowa and New Hampshire from leading off the primary season at the recommendation of President Joe Biden.

Why the shake-up? Supporters of the calendar say the changes do a better job of representing minority voters that are the “main bloc of voters” for the party.

However, the calendar change is not set in stone since it’s now up to states to change their primary dates to comply with the party.
