After starting early with a supporting part as a child actor on the TV show “Growing Pains,” Leonardo DiCaprio went on to become one of the greatest U.S. actors of all time. DiCaprio has accrued a long list of accolades for his starring roles in “Titanic,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Blood Diamond,” and “The Revenant,” the latter of which won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. Beyond film, DiCaprio is also a well-known environmental activist and lends his celebrity to causes that combat climate change.

The director hired two stunt people who were similar in height and weight to Leo and Kate and recreated the raft scene in a pool to test different scenarios. After going through multiple different scenarios, one where Jack was also granted Rose's life jacket looked to be a success! For a few hours at least.
The results were mixed, to say the least. But it looks like running the tests pushed Cameron to consider Jack could have made it. “Jack might’ve lived, but there’s a lot of variables,” Cameron concedes.
A few more details on the tests:
- In the first, Cameron showed Jack & Rose couldn’t have both survived on the raft.
- During the second test, the two stunt people tried to position themselves halfway in the water.
- In the third test, Jack was granted a life jacket from Rose, and here it was clear Jack could've survived!
