A dad from Canada posted what he thought was a tribute to his overwhelmed wife, but TikTok had other ideas. According to TodayPhil Mackenzie recently posted a TikTok video of his wife, Brodie, doing an at-home workout while their newborn was napping. The couple also have three other kids, five-year-old Hudson, and twins Preston and Boden, who are two, and they work from home, so you can imagine their house is a little messy.

Phil’s video explains that he walked in on his wife exercising and shows the clutter in their home. But despite all the chores that needed to be done, he was supportive of Brodie taking a few minutes of time for herself that he says “she deserved 10 times over.” The dad continues, “The mess and chores can always wait, but your mental health should never be sacrificed.”

Seems nice, right? Not according to TikTokers, who quickly slammed the dad for not doing more:

  • “Um please help her???,” one user writes.
  • “Dude? Try pitching in,” shares another.
  • “Step up my guy,” comments a third. “Are we back in the 50s?”
  • Fortunately, some folks were on the dad’s side, like one who writes, “Why is everyone coming for him for trying to have a sweet, genuine moment?”
  • Since the video went viral, Phil has explained to Today.com that he tries to show the real side of parenting in videos and that he and Brodie are a team. For the record, she thinks some of the comments are “hilarious,” but she also feels a little guilty “because he didn’t deserve the backlash.”
