The FAA is investigating a near-miss incident involving two passenger planes last week at JFK Airport. Officials say a departing Delta flight that was taking off from a runway. The plane was forced to stop midway because of an American Airlines plane crossing the same runway. The planes were 1000 feet apart.

Air traffic control contacted both flights immediately. Delta called the incident a “successful aborted takeoff procedure” and said a full review is underway. Audio from the flight shows the air traffic controller taking swift action to avoid a collision. Both flights were completely full.

Below you’ll see what happened and hear the actual ATC conversations.
