The Salty Donut Is Opening In Charlotte In South End This January
I’ve admitted this before; I’m not a huge donut fan. I like Dunkin’s cake donuts; however, I don’t enjoy the Krispy Kreme glazed donut. I know, the horror! But it’s true. Bagels are MY thing, but I can tell you that The Salty Donut is amazing!
The Miami-based donut shop is opening a location in Charlotte in early January. According to Charlotte Five, this will be the brand’s eighth location and the first in North Carolina. The Salty Donut has been called one of the best donut shops in America. And I’m thinking that’s true.
Yesterday the shop brought some donuts to the station. First off, let me say that the boxes the donuts come in are awesome! They come in black boxes which are very sleek. I opened the box and saw some delicious looking treats. I grabbed a donut without looking online at their menu, so I wasn’t sure what I was getting. By looking at the donut, I thought it was a glazed donut. I was wrong.
The donut I picked turned out to be a Brown Butter + Salt Cake donut. It’s a vanilla bean cake doughnut topped with brown butter glaze and Maldon sea salt. OMG! It was amazing! And it was huge! I gave Phil half to taste and we both loved it! Now I can’t wait to try other flavors!
When you go to saltydonut.com, you can see the menus for other locations. The shop has some staple donuts but makes specific ones depending on where the shop is located. Very cool! I can’t wait to see the donuts they come up with that will be specific to the Charlotte area.
The Salty Donut will open for business on the bottom floor of the Dimensional Funds tower in South End at 1515 S. Tryon. Friday, Jan. 6 is their grand opening and craft donuts, and coffee will be available. To celebrate its opening weekend, from Friday, Jan. 6 through Sunday, Jan. 8, the first 50 guests each day will receive a limited-edition gift bag that includes a Charlotte tote bag, postcard, stickers and swag.
