What’s the most stressful part of the holidays to you? Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe finding the right gift for their loved ones is the most stressful, according to SWNS Digital and new research. A survey of 2-thousand adults who plan to exchange holiday gifts finds that six in 10 are worried about being “out-gifted” this holiday season.
The survey also reveals:
- 62% of respondents are trying to be the best gift giver in their family and 24% say mom is their biggest competition.
- Gift giving is a friendly competition in the family for 59% of those polled, with 20% rating themselves as the best gift giver, 13% giving the honor to their partner and 12% naming dad as the best.
- The process of picking out the ideal gift isn’t easy as respondents say they brainstorm an average of five ideas before deciding on the perfect present.
- People prefer giving gifts over receiving them (31% to 19%), while 44% say they enjoy both equally.
- Sustainability is on shoppers’ minds, as 42% of those polled say they’ve started to care more about buying eco-friendly gifts over the last few years.
- Half of respondents (49%) also say they’d be willing to go out of their way to shop at a local, sustainable business, and of those, they’d be willing to pay 44% more and spend an extra 3.5 hours on the present-buying process.
- Factors that influence their gift-buying decisions include how much the recipient will like the gift (43%), the cost of the gift (39%), how it compares to what they got the recipient last year (37%) and how it compares to what they’re getting for other people (35%).
