A Texas man did the unthinkable when he found his girlfriend's engagement ring in their tornado rubble.

Of course, most couples carry insurance on jewelry, but nothing can replace that original piece. I know how it felt when I thought I lost my ring. I felt so terrible because although it is "replaceable," it is also priceless.

According to the NY Post, a couple lost practically everything they own when a tornado tore through their Powderly, Texas, home. One of the lost items was a wedding ring set Dakota Hudson bought for his longtime girlfriend. The damage was devastating. “I told her, I was like, ‘I lost your engagement ring and your wedding band,” Hudson recalls. “All she needed was me.”

But things took a surprising turn when the Paris Junior College softball team came to help. The team helped search for the missing ring. The athletes sifted through the debris and rubble on the property, looking for the glittering diamond. They refused to give up until they found it. “When you tell 20 girls someone is going to get engaged if they find a ring, they are going to find it,” Hudson said. And that’s exactly what one of them did.

Kate Rainey, one of the softball team members, says she knew to dig through the mud in a specific area. She trusted her intuition and found the ring. She felt the metal circle two inches down in the mud and pulled the ring out of the muck seven yards from its original hiding place in the home. As soon as she found it, Hudson dropped to one knee and popped the question right then and there because he “wasn’t going to wait anymore.” And after waiting seven years for that proposal, Patterson said “yes,” as well as, “It’s about f-ing time!”
