Those of us who grew up watching “Sesame Street” as kids or watched it with our own kids have always just known him as Cookie Monster, but it turns out, he has a real name. And he’s taken to social media to tell us what it is.

According to Honey, in a video posted to the official “Sesame Street” TikTok account, the lovable blue guy shares a memory and reveals his first name. The clip, captioned “The day we learned Cookie’s real name,” begins with baby Cookie Monster sitting in a highchair playing with blocks. “First time me eat cookie, when me was very small. Me had never tasted cookie at all,” he sings. “Me was just a mild mannered little kid. In fact, back then, me think my name was … Sid!”

He then goes on to explain that his mommy introduced him to cookies, giving him one she just baked and it was love at first bite. “Delicious taste sensation. Me knew me life just changed,” Sid the Cookie Monster sings. The video was posted with the comment, “Every great hero needs an origin story.” While it may not be the first time Cookie’s real name has been revealed - the song he sings, “Cookie Dough” is said to date back to a 2004 episode of “Sesame Street” - it’s news to many surprised viewers.

“Well I was today years old when I learned this,” comments one TikToker.

“I told my family his real name is Sid and you’d think I told them the sun is green,” shares another. “That was a fun conversation.”

“What’s in those cookies that caused his immediate addiction,” asks another. “We need answers!”
