I love an over-the-top party, but it seems like a brianer that this would be a no no! Dying a natural body of water can’t be good for the environment!
Just when we thought we’d heard it all when it comes to gender reveal parties, according to the NY Post, a couple in Brazil is proving that wrong. The parents-to-be are now in hot water after dyeing a waterfall bright blue on Sunday to announce that they’re having a baby boy. And now the unnamed couple are being slammed for the stunt.
The expectant mom and dad posted several photos of the vivid blue Queima-Pé River waterfall with a stork made out of balloons next to the shore, but after being hit with backlash, they deleted them. The thing is, that waterfall has long been an ecological tourist destination and people didn’t take kindly to it being contaminated with whatever blue coloring they used to change its natural beauty.
Now the parents are being investigated by the local government and may face charges for an environmental crime. The secretary for the environment for the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso has released a statement saying they’ll look into whether a crime was actually committed. “The inspection will investigate the environmental damage caused by the material thrown into the water,” the statement explains. “If there is an environmental crime, those responsible will be charged and may be held accountable for an environmental crime.” No charges have been filed … yet.
These gender reveals seem to be getting out of control. Remeber when the milk crate challagne met the gender reveal ?
