A woman planned a family trip to bring her blended family closer together, but it all fell apart when she discovered her husband hid her daughter’s passport to keep her from coming. In a post to Reddit AITA “Am I the a-hole” section, the mom explains that she’s been with her husband for three years and he has three kids from a previous relationship and she has a 17-year-old daughter, who’s the oldest. “He’s a dedicated man, puts God first and loves everyone,” she writes.

There had been some tension in the family that her husband was blaming on the 17-year-old, claiming she wouldn’t spend time with her step-siblings. The teen told her mom that her stepdad told her to be a babysitter when she’s with them, but he denied it and said the teen was “making up excuses to not have to spend time with his kids.” So the mom decided to book a family trip to help unite them all and her husband liked the idea, but suggested they let the 17-year-old stay home because of her bad “attitude.” The mom refused to exclude her daughter, but suddenly the teen’s passport they’d need for the trip mysteriouslydisappeared.

“My husband said maybe it was a sign from God that we should let her stay home so the trip wouldn’t turn into a disaster,” she explains. But after turning the house upside down looking for it, the mom found it hidden in a drawer in his office and confronted him. He tried to deny it, but he was caught in the act by their home security system camera and the mom flipped out and canceled the whole trip. He says she overreacted and he wants to take time to “get guidance from God about how to deal with the disrespect and control” she showed. So she’s asking Redditors if she was wrong here and nearly everyone says she’s not out of line at all and that her husband is trying to control her and her daughter.
