NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 27: A Revel moped is parked unused on the street on August 27, 2020 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. The app-based scooter sharing company announced today that it was back on city streets with new safety regulations in New York City and reviewed and strengthened safety measures after two customers were killed in separate crashes during the month of July while using the electric two-wheelers. Revel's rental scooters have become a common sight on the streets of New York City in recent weeks as residents shun public transport due to coronavirus pandemic. Zoom! Mopeds are taking over Charlotte!

I remember when I was in high school, my family couldn’t afford to get me a car to use, so we talked about getting me a moped to drive around town. As a stuck up little high-schooler, I thought that was so embarrassing, but now looking back… HOW COOL WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN?! I would have loved to have been “Moped girl.”

As Charlotte grows and it becomes harder and harder to find parking, and get around easily, many people are looking for alternatives to cars. Lots of people use the scooters to get around town easily, but there seems to be a new trend growing; mopeds!

According to WCNC, moped sales are way up! They talked to Mike Hutchins, who is the owner of Mike’s Auto Sales, and he said his scooter sales are up 400% from last year and they are selling fast.

Inflation is causing people to be more cautious about big purchases, so car sales have actually gone down in the last year. But moped sales are doing the opposite!

While I personally haven’t noticed an increase in mopeds on the road yet in Charlotte, I do believe that people are buying more of them. Cars are so expensive, and with Charlotte having so many back roads to get through the city on, I think a moped would be perfect, and a much more cost friendly option.

The only thing I would be worried about is the drivers in Charlotte. I barely trust them in my car, let alone on a moped! Stay safe out there, and happy riding!
