What's your favorite Carolina beach? A lot of people roll from Charlotte to the NC Outer Banks. Others like me head south in SC for Folly Beach.
My family and 2 other families spent a week in Folly Beach. It's a place we go back to every year. For the last 8 years we've gone to FB and it never disappoints. It's really a quick ride for me from Waxhaw. 3 hours and 45 minutes door to door. Way closer than any NC beach!
The island itself is right next to Charleston. The minute you crossover into Folly Beach you get a "small town eclectic beach vibe." Center street is full of restaurants and shops and people walking.
There's plenty of good places to eat. Ritas, Loggerheads, Lost Dog Cafe, Taco Boy , and Woody's Pizza are just a few of my faves.
When we first started going there we stayed at places close to center street. Within walking distance to the beach. (Honestly, most places are within walking distance). Then we decided to rent a little further away from the busyness and rented a golf cart too. What a difference that makes with kids in tow!
I have a good friend who lives there, and he's a great person to get recommendations from. He also knows the laws. No drinking on the beach, no driving golf carts after dark, and no lights on the beach because of the sea turtles!
There are so many things to do on this small island. Sit on the beach, go on a boat excursion, go into Charleston, and check out the old lighthouse.
If you're going to do some shopping, I recommend going to Mckevlin's Surf Shop.
Few more quick things... The Pier is closed and isn't opening until spring 2023. If you go during a holiday it will be packed. Plan on walking everywhere, or take a golf cart!
