You wouldn't know this by living in Charlotte, but did you know that population growth in the United States is actually slowing? From 2010 to 2020, the population grew by just 7.4%. If you're like me and you don't truly know what that means...just know that is the lowest rate since the 1930s.

As I previously mentioned, you wouldn't know that if you live in Charlotte.

Stacker compiled a list of the fast-growing cities in North Carolina using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. North Carolina has small mountain towns, coastal towns, and big cities. The reason why you wouldn't know that the population growth is slowing down in Charlotte is that Charlotte got ranked number one by Stacker as the fastest-growing North Carolina city.

From 2010 to 2020 there was an increase of 168,683. That puts Charlotte as #5 among all cities nationwide.

As of 2020, the population in Charlotte, North Carolina came in right under one million at 874,579. That puts our Queen City as the largest city in North Carolina and the sixteenth largest city nationwide.

According to Stacker, these are the fastest-growing cities in North Carolina:

  1. Charlotte
  2. Raleigh
  3. Durham
  4. Cary
  5. Greensboro
  6. Concord
  7. Winston-Salem
  8. Apex
  9. Wake Forest
  10. Mooresville
  11. Holly Springs
  12. Huntersville
  13. Fuquay-Varina
  14. Morrisville
  15. High Point
  16. Ashevile
  17. Waxhaw
  18. Clayton
  19. Kannapolis
  20. Leland
