The latest trends in music? Metal Injection says streaming is still #1, but both Vinyl and CD sales are up, while digital downloads are trending down.

According to the year-end report from the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA), Vinyl officially became a billion-dollar industry in 2021, topping $1.037 billion in revenues. CDs also had a strong year, up $100 million or 21% from 2020.

Not doing so well, though, are digital downloads, which sank by roughly $80 million. Of course, streaming is still dominating the industry with 83% of the market. In 2021, music streaming apps generated nearly $12.5 billion.

Check out the whole report from the RIAA here.

How do you listen to music? Do you buy physical albums, or rely on streaming apps like Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music? Or do you still prefer listening on vinyl and CD?
