Now there's a way to find out why you got that 1 star Uber passenger rating.

We all know passengers who take Ubers can rate their experience on the app, but those drivers can also rate their passengers, and it seems folks in certain areas have been deemed ruder than others.

  • A new survey by the ride-sharing app rated passengers on things like whether they show up on time, leave trash in vehicles, talk to their drivers respectfully, and more, giving passengers ratings from one to five stars.
  • Results show New Yorkers are the rudest Uber passengers, followed by passengers from Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
  • Riders from the Midwest and Sun Belt were rated as much nicer than most passengers.

Top 10 Cities With the Rudest Uber Passengers

  1. New York, NY
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Washington, DC
  4. Boston, MA
  5. Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN
  6. San Francisco, CA
  7. Philadelphia, PA
  8. Los Angeles, CA
  9. Baltimore, MD
  10. Chicago, IL
  • In related news…If you are curious as to how you rate as a passenger, Uber just announced that they are allowing riders to view the breakdown of how they got their Uber rating.

The new feature is available to all Uber users via the Privacy Center. There, folks will see a prompt for “Would you like to see a summary of how you use Uber” and in the “Browse Your Data” section there’s a “View My Ratings” area, which shows the star ratings they’ve received, as well as info on past trips and more.

According to Uber, there are things riders can do to get higher ratings, with drivers likely to give more stars to riders who are clean, ready on time, buckle up, and don’t slam the door.
