How Many Calories Is A Typical Thanksgiving Dinner?
For most Americans, calories don’t count on Thanksgiving – although they do still exist no matter how hard we choose to ignore them. You might be surprised to learn the number of calories you’re actually consuming after you pile your plate with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, casserole, mac n cheese…OH and the appetizers of course like cheese and crackers, chips, deviled eggs – and oh! Don’t forget desserts like sweet potato or pumpkin pie!
All of this deliciousness adds up to about 3,000 calories and 150 grams of fat according to the Calorie Control Council. And that’s not including any seconds or leftovers which can easily add on an extra 1,000 calories. Depending on your portion sizes too, it’s possible you could be consuming up to 4,500 calories which is DOUBLE the amount of a person’s recommended daily calorie intake. No wonder you feel literally STUFFED afterward.
