We are officially past Halloween, and many people will start having rotting pumpkins on their doorsteps. Instead of throwing away your pumpkin this year, which can actually be quite bad, try recycling your pumpkin this year.

Experts say that every year, hundreds of pumpkins end up in landfills; that might not seem like a big deal but it can actually be quite harmful. According to the World Economic Forum, pumpkins that decompose in landfills eventually emit methane gas, which is “more than 20 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide.”

Here are some alternative methods to dispose of your pumpkin that are actually helpful to the Earth.
