People trick-or-treat in a Brooklyn neighborhood on Halloween night on October 31, 2015 in New York City. Throughout the country children and adults are dressing-up in costumes to both scare and entertain as they make their way through neighborhoods collecting candy treats.
At what age do you stop trick or treating?
Whiteville, North Carolina has an ordinance that states children over the age of 12 are not allowed to trick-or-treat, or else they could potentially be charged with a misdemeanor and could face a fine or jail time. In addition to that, the ordinance also states that trick-or-treating must be done before 8:30 pm.
Not anymore, though! City leaders have officially changed the law.
After a debate at a Whiteville city council meeting Tuesday night, it was decided that children 16 and under can participate and they advise parents to always supervise.
