The U.S. Navy is releasing more information about last week’s deadly helicopter crash off the coast of San Diego.
The wreck happened during routine flight operations aboard the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln on August 31st. According to NBC San Diego, The Department of Defense says the helicopter was attempting to land on the flight deck when it experienced “side-to-side vibrations,” causing the main rotor to hit the deck and flip the aircraft.
It crashed in the sea about 60 nautical miles off the coast. Five sailors were declared dead, one was rescued, and five additional sailors aboard the Navy ship were injured.
I actually went to High School with the sister of one of the sailors. Photos of her brother have been flooding my page and they are trying to start a GoFundMe for the families.
