Bill Belichick shocked the NFL world Tuesday morning when he released veteran quarterback Cam Newton. About an hour after his release, Newton reacted on Instagram – the first comments on the move from either side.

“I really appreciate all the love and support during this time but I must say…please don’t feel sorry for me,” Newton posted via a story in his trademark social media font, before adding “#ImGood”

According to Adam Beasley of The Athletic Newton was released due to a “combination” of factors, including his vaccination status. Newton missed five days last week due to an issue with the NFL’s COVID testing policy, opening the door for Mac Jones’ best practice of the summer during a joint session with the New York Giants on Wednesday.

The Patriots and Belichick are yet to comment on the matter, and likely won’t off schedule. Belichick’s next scheduled media appearance is set for 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
