Want to shed a few pounds without having to think about calories? According to PopSugar, it’s not that hard to do. Registered dietitian Kylie Sakaida knows some people really hate counting calories, so she offers pointers for losing weight that have nothing to do with calories and focus more on what types of food to be eating.
Sakaida shares her simple tips in a TikTok video and they include:
- Eating protein – This tops her list and she explains protein “takes longer to digest than carbs” which means you’ll stay fuller for longer. So if your typical breakfast is avocado toast, she suggests adding an egg to it to get more protein in your meal.
- Stop rushing through meals – Lots of us are guilty of this, but Sakaida reminds us that our brains can take up to 20 minutes to realize that the stomach is full. But if you slow down while eating, you’re less likely to overeat.
- Count the colors on your plate instead of the calories – Make sure you have a wide variety of colors in your food so you get a range of nutrients. She points out that this helps you think of foods from a nutrient perspective, rather than from a calorie perspective.
She makes it seem so easy and she even admits she’s not a fan of kale, so it seems like we can trust her.
