Well I wasn’t expecting this one.
it’s back to school time, and students returning to UNC Charlotte’s campus will notice a different school… literally; they changed their name.
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte no longer wants to be called UNCC, and is now opting to be called, “Charlotte” instead.
In a press release from the school, they announced that “The University of North Carolina at Charlotte” will still be the school’s formal name, but they want you to call them “Charlotte” in conversation. Charlotte is still a part of the UNC system too.
My personal opinion: I best most people will continue to call is UNCC, as calling it Charlotte, and living in Charlotte to me can just get confusing, but it will be interesting to see if it really catches on.
