The Maney & LauRen Morning Show

Weekdays 6:00AM-9:00AM

I used to get mad at my mom when she would record “Regis and Kathy Lee” over my shows on VHS. But this mom is taking it to another level.

A teen in Brazil who had more than 1.7-million followers on social media lost them all after her mom deleted her TikTok and Instagram accounts. Valentina Rocha Kanner Rios, who went by the name Nina Rios, was enjoying her Internet fame, but her mom Fernanda thought it was a “bad influence.” So she got rid of Valentina’s accounts, admitting that it was “Radical, yes. Necessary, too.”

Yahoo quoted her mom as saying “It’s hard enough for you to find out who you are at 14 years old.” “When there are two million you’ve never seen in your life thinking they know you, it’s even more dangerous. It’s easier to lose yourself.” The concerned mother adds that she doesn’t think it’s healthy for an adult, much less a teenager to “base her self-discovery on online feedback.”

Of course, Valentina was not happy with her mom’s drastic move and says she “got quite angry” about it. Now she’s not sure when – or if – she’ll make her social media comeback, adding that she doesn’t even want to at the moment. And that suits her mom just fine. “I don’t want her to grow up believing she’s this character,” Fernanda says. I don’t want her advertising flammable polyester clothing made in China. I don’t want my brilliant daughter doing her daily dances like a trained baboon.”
