The keto diet has become incredibly popular and fans love that it can help them lose pounds quickly, but new research finds it might actually be pretty dangerous. I’ve always said it doesn’t sound healthy. How can pumping your body with fat and red meat be good for you long term?? Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen!
And according to Best Life, I wasn’t wrong….
A Keto diet is generally high in fat and very low in carbs, which is why it gets results, author and registered dietitian Lee Crosby told Best Life that “loading up on red meat, processed meat and saturated fat and restricting carbohydrate-rich vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains is a recipe for bad health.”
Best health reported that one of the risks is that restricting carbs can lead to eating more foods linked to an increase in cancer and other diseases, including processed or red meat. Researchers also caution that high protein diets, like keto, can accelerate kidney failure in people with kidney disease and puts those without chronic kidney disease at risk for getting kidney stones.
