SYDNEY, NSW – JUNE 07: A pregnant woman holds her stomach June 7, 2006 in Sydney, Australia. Australia is currently enjoying a baby boom, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics registering a 2.4% increase in births from 2004 to 2005, which represents the highest number of births since 1992. The Australian Federal Government has been encouraging people to have more babies, with financial incentives and the slogan by treasurer Peter Costello to “have one for mum, one for dad, and one for the country”. The Federal Government has identified falling fertility rates and the ageing population as long-term problems for Australia’s growth and prosperity. (Photo by Ian Waldie/Getty Images)
Morning sickness stinks, everyone knows that. But for one woman, she’s not alone in experiencing morning sickness – her husband experienced it, too! And yes, at the same time. A mom-to-be has taken to “Reddit” to share her story.
"I’m now 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I’ve been experiencing morning sickness and it’s been horrible...” she writes. “A while after I first started experiencing morning sickness, my husband has also started to experience something similar. I was told that sometimes husbands can also experience this ...sympathetic pregnancy."
The wife did not find this comforting...and in fact, she hates it. Even saying she’s “utterly disgusted” and that she’s “pissed off” when she sees him get sick. Why? She’s says he’ll never fully know “the constant discomfort and pain” that she feels. Basically, she feels as though he is “mimicking” her.
Some commenters blamed her hormones for this, with one “Reddit” user writing, "I think - and I mean this in the most validating way possible, I swear - your hormones might be clouding your judgment here. When you're pregnant you’re much more likely to go 0 to 100 immediately over things that are really only like a 20... It's important to note that you’re allowed to be annoyed and upset about it, it's how you act on it that’s the important thing."
Another commenter said her husband also had pregnancy symptoms, except she found it sweet. "When I was pregnant my husband had so many pregnancy symptoms. He had nausea, gained weight, had insomnia, and (weirdly) had sore nipples at one point. I remember it being really annoying in my first trimester (with both my pregnancies) but then as the pregnancy progressed and I didn’t feel so awful anymore I thought it was kind of sweet. I don’t think he’d be experiencing this if he wasn’t a very sympathetic partner."
