Grandfather Mountain is one of the top tourist attractions in the North Carolina mountains. And it takes on a different personality for each season.  During summer, Grandfather Mountain is known for its lush greenery and colors of the blooms. However, during July, there is a lot of plaid to be seen. After a COVID year hiatus, 2021 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games will return to Linville, NC. Come July 8-11th MacRae Meadows will be home to lots of bagpipes, dancing, Celtic cuisine, Scottish games including field events, music, and crafts.

While online ticket sales have ended tickets will be available for purchase at the event. The event kicksoff Thursday afternoon with the border collie sheepherding and opening ceremonies. The torchlight ceremony features more than 100 Scottish clans announcing their participation in the event and celebrating their family's heritage.  Sunday includes categories for amateur competitors as well as athletes over age 40. The are also youth competitions include clan tug-of-war.
