Who are the most popular sports stars? New research has revealed the most popular athletes around the world. SportsShoes.com, used Google search data to find out which sports stars are searched for the most in different countries. They used this data to determine the most popular male and female athletes around the globe.
They studied the search volumes of 2,800 athletes. Compromised of 23 professional sports including tennis, boxing, American football, cricket, rugby, soccer and basketball. Data was collected and compared from 170 countries across the world over a 12-month period. The data was compiled using Google Keyword Planner and is correct as of March 2021.
Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and UFC superstar Ronda Rousey topped the lists of the world’s favourite male and female sportspeople.

Without a huge global fan base, football was underrepresented on the list- Tom Brady was the only player to make the global tally. They also broke it out by sport so here are the most popular football players.
As well as basketball players. Neither of these breakout statistics comes as much of a surprise to me.
