Even though the pandemic here in the United States seems to be coming to an end, the COVID-19 virus is still out there.

Hopefully, you are vaccinated already, or plan on doing so. Remember: the vaccine will not keep you from getting the virus, but it will make symptoms less severe, ultimately keeping you safer, but not keeping you from getting the virus at all.

Because of this, these at-home COVID-19 tests will be super convenient! And did you know that they’re completely free?!

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced on Wednesday that they decided to expand access of these COVID-19 tests.

Where Can You Order It?

Any North Carolina resident 18 or older is now able to request that a test be shipped and delivered directly to their home. If someone younger than 18, but older than 2, needs a test, a parent or guardian over 18 must request it for them. You are able to order online through or through several of their partnered organizations around the state listed here:

  • Stevens Center (Lee and Harnett County)
  • Haywood Vocational Opportunities Inc. (Haywood County)
  • Martin Enterprises (Martin County)
  • Disability Advocacy Center (Guilford, Alamance, Caswell, Randolph and Rockingham Counties)

After you request the kit, it is sent directly to you through FedEx Overnight shipping.

What Comes With The COVID-19 Test Kit?

The kit includes test supplies (nasal swab, container, etc.) and detailed instructions of how to use. Prepaid shipping material for the completed test to be sent back to Labcorp will also be included.

Results should be available within 24 to 48 hours of when they receive the sample. Results can be seen online at

Have you had a COVID test before? Are you planning on taking advantage of these free tests?
